As a prospective buyer, has Uniden fixed the dimming display issues, RTC issues and also what is the scanner enthusiasts opinion that the 536 series is close to End of Life? Thanks for your thoughts.

The RTC and dimming issues were fixed quite some time ago. Uniden set up the repair program for scanners exhibiting the problem, and also made changes to the new units being produced to also include the replacement parts used in the repair campaign. I have had zero issues with my 536 & 436 that went in for that repair in the fall of last year. Also not seeing any reports of 'repaired' scanners come up with the same issue again.
Only Uniden knows if the 436/536 are near end of life. But a comment made by UPMan a month or two ago indicated that they were definitely not being discontinued any time soon.
You loose the backlight or the display? If it is the backlight it is covered. If it is the display connect to it remotely and look at the contrast settings. Or option 3 get it repaired.

Tony While you are waiting for delivery; down load the software, config to what you want and your go to go. Had my 536 repaired under the repair campaign and nodda problems since..73 from a fellow ham. Bob N9RMA
I got mine back on Monday from the RTC repair and they also did the display but never noticed any dimming since I always run my equipment at low display settings or off.
Here is the new color of the display but had to increase the brightness so it didn't look like a sort of sepia color.
