Interesting in case you didn't watch or hear what Paul said -- the screen/display "looks blue" to the camera but he says it's WHITE.

That's good.

He said the backlight is white and the camera makes it look blue, but hoping the LCD display is white as well.

Can anyone confirm this? If this is accurate, I assume that it may be *possible* that at some point we will have TRBO and/or NXDN capabilities with the 436/536??

Yes, N8IAA is right..For the 436/536 to work with the MotoTRBO & NXDN voice with out any problems Uniden would need to install the digital board for MotoTRBO and IDAS/NXDN card inside the scanners so anyone can listen to the local digital systems.

My old GRE 800 have all new features of uniden 1 years ago.

Can you tell us where to find that in the user manual?

Regarding formats other than APCO 25 Phase 2 and X2-TDMA, which we have announced are supported in the models: We do not comment on features that have not been announced, as we might or might not ever be able make such features available (for many reasons, including technical possibility, return on investment, and others). This should not be read to say that someday we will provide support for such systems. This should also not be read to say that we will never provide support for such systems.

You would make an excellent DOD spokesperson. ;-)

Which attorney wrote this, Paul!? :) Not sure how to take this, however I am going to try to take it in a positive light!

I am thankful for the new product offering, but also hopeful for additional digital technologies in the future since the hardware should support it! IF it's possible I am sure Uniden is working on it, but ROI and other factors are limiting.

Don't fall off the fence while you're up there. ;)

After playing around with the Sentinel software for a while, I'm confident that I could program the scanner from scratch using it. It would be nice if the software allowed importing .rsf files from ARC XT or other programs, but that's not a necessity.

You can cut and paste frequency data from any program, but audio type and CTCSS, DCS, or NAC can not be pasted. At least I haven't figured out how to do that. Considering that yesterday I couldn't figure out how to do anything with Sentinel, I won't say that it can't be done.

You can either start with the DB information or replace it totally.

I've done this in the HP-1 Sentinel using an intermediate Excel spreadsheet to prepend the tone/code with the appropriate info.

Uhhh... the backlight is what lights up the LCD. The LCD display is clear and black.

The alert light is clearly blue, but was not referenced.

I stand corrected, backlight off the LCD is grey with black. Minor mental lapse ;). So no blue display is good news.

This scanner looks impressive and has the necessary capacity and evolutionary changes one would expect from a Uniden scanner. I guess the real question is how does it perform on a variety of conventional & trunked systems and is it worth the purchase price ?

No fencing. Just a lot is/was being read into things I had absolutely not commented on. I can't comment on some things (as mentioned). Others I try not to as a matter of policy: For instance, the raging debate on whether digital performance is better. It is better for me. But, you'll both better trust and be better served by reports from other users and reviewers.

We do not need WIFI, a scanner to work with a phone or tablet, multiple colors or anything like that.
These are all things that current users either currently enjoy having, or asked for during the development process.

Thank you Uniden for making a lot of us just throw money out the window with the HP-1. Maybe SOMEDAY you corporate people making all this money for crappy slow moving products will ACTUALLY listen to your consumers!
Paul's stated that the HP-1 was far more successful than they anticipated it would ever be, so they must have done something right - if it was that bad, people would have caught on eventually and stopped buying the product. If the HP-1 was that successful, it only makes sense to take some of the most successful portions of the radio and expand upon those.

I'm excited to get mine and install it in my truck...

Is there a place where I can download the Sentinel software so I can play with it? I want to see how it works and how to program the scanner before I decide to get on or not. While I like the database part of it I want to be able to program it myself.

I love my HP1, wish I would have waited a year longer to buy it.
Is there any mention of the receiver being enhanced over the HP1?

It's good everywhere but 800. I realize loss is a huge concern, but it seems pretty deaf.

The wifi is what sold me on it. So many possibilities.

Odd - didn't hear much of anything during this recording ,,, and what was heard was analog.

How about a video of a Phase I or Phase II system in action?

The DFW area doesn't have any P2 yet (that's actively used), BUT they do have LSM. I'd love to hear it on that.
