Well for me it would be great. I do not have a smartphone nor a tablet that is 3G, 4G or whatever. I would love to be able to listen to FDNY or even my own feed during my 1 hour and 30 minutes ride to school.
Kinda interesting (presuming Gommert made the video). Should one anticipate Butel is in the process of creating programming software for the new models which may be available when the new models come out?
I hope they do. I have played with Free Scan and the Sentinel software and prefer the Butel stuff.
The 536 does not connect to the internet, it connects to your LAN via WiFi. So you'll never receive scanner feeds in your vehicle unless you have a device in the vehicle that is connecting to the internet via a 3G, 4G, etc. type of connection, and you're using that device as a hotspot.
Since Gromert (sp) has one, I'd expect software. He supplies one for the HP-1, nut IMHO, there is little it does that can not be done in Sentinel.
As someone else said - you can pre-make GPS enabled favorites and only have what you want in them using Sentinel.
Well maybe that is the upgrade for March? Not sure what else could be upgraded for Wi-fi. To be honest I am not familiar with all that stuff. I know how to use it and connect but thats it.

Unless you live in one of the very few cities that has municipal WiFi, it's not going to work. Not only that, but you'd probably have to sign in to a website to actually gain access to the network (think Starbucks, Panera etc), not something that can be done through a scanner.
The WiFi is going to be for broadcasting it from your home or office (infrastructure mode) or somewhere that you don't need to signin first before connecting out. The ad-hoc method is going to be used primarily in vehicles for access on a smartphone nearby. It could be used at home as well, but you'd probably use the infrastructure side of it.
If they did update it in March to support pulling feeds in, it would have to be setup using scenario 1 listed above. The only reason I would ever consider doing that is if you setup a feed to broadcast the systems/groups etc so your display looks like the feed scanner itself. Otherwise why not just use Scanner Radio or any of the other feed apps out there?
Again, I do not own a smartphone or tablet with internet connectivity.

Actually the ARC-PATROL software does allow limited virtual control and logging of the HP-1. I'm using it right now to log hits on a couple of new systems in my area. I've also found editing Favorites Lists easier than with Sentinel, though I could use either.

Fair enough, but I don't see anything above a limited feed description being availble.
At this point I haven't seen a word about a remote head being available for this. Everyone is saying to control it via a smartphone or tablet using the ad-hoc WiFi.
That would be fine with me. There are also some that do have Alpha tags though.
Hard wire remote
Hello Uniden: I am very excited about the BCD536HP. I am a pilot / reporter and have 4 996xt’s in the helicopter. I would be happy to replace all of them but the problem I face is a remote head. Does the unit have the capability to have a hard wire remote? WiFi I do not think will work for me in the helicopter.

I can't think of a reason why the wifi wouldn't work in a helicopter. Unless I am missing something?
Get a few nexus7-like tablets and use them as wireless remote heads.

I wonder if the siren app will allow a Bluetooth headset for audio? I know the phone/tablet will support it, but the app itself will have to support it otherwise it won't work.

The helicopter is not set up for the tablet install. I will put a picture online to show but if not able to do a hard wire remote means a physical relocation of the scanner. Thanks for the idea.

Let's look at their dimensions:
7.20W × 1.90D × 2.20H in - RH-96
7.81W × 4.72D × 0.42H in - Nexus 7
So you'd have a tablet that's wider by about a half inch and taller by more the twice the amount to control 1 scanner. This is in a helicopter where every inch of real estate matters. Not to mention the cords come out of the ends as opposed to the back, so you'll have to add a little to the length.
Using tablets and smartphones exclusively to control the scanner is not the best fit for every single potential owner of the scanner.
