So then my understanding of this is that you can plug this into your Tom Tom or Garmin Nuvi GPS unit to get the benefits of pre-programed scanners like the BCD 436HP and BCD 536HP that will soon be released to be able to automatically scan the area you are driving in?

Unfortunately, TomToms and Nuvis do not support the standard GPS communications protocol, so they would not work. There IS an adapter for some Nuvis that will communicate in a standard GPS format.

I would just buy a puck type GPS and be done with it. I have several including Deluo, Byonics, and Uniden. I used to use a Garmin that had a standard GPS interface (NMEA standard) and it worked fine, too.

Maybe ask Tom Tom or Garmin if you can add a NMEA port to your GPSs, as it's really up to them to be able to talk to the outside world.

Again Phase II way after it was needed, no DMR, no NXDN, no LTR Pass Port, no LTR Multinet, no proper support for multisite P25..... Other than that, awesome tool.. Would play with one, but... Not on the ball. Will wait to see just what Whistler puts out in its 3 or 4 in 2014.

Thank You for hitting the nail on the head about "No proper support for Multiple Site P25!" Using a BCD996T, I monitor 4 sites in Orange Co. N.C. with one site In Chapel Hill were I receive TGIDs' from Wake and Durham County. Using Uniden's limited 10 group per site software, I can't set proper groups into separate sub groups where it will display correctly, I can remember where I stored them within the software, and I can turn them on and off at will. I was hoping it's newer brother, BCD996XT with 500 TG's per system would solve the problem. Furthermore, I hope Uniden made a hot key TGID delete button for people like the actress Mabel who witnesses unprofessional language as I have had the unfortunate privilege.

Doing my homework, The BCD996XT does 25000 Channels and 500 TG per trunked system where the BCD536HP does 100 Systems per Favorites List, and 100 Departments per System but no documentation on how many channels . While scanning 100 Depts. seems quicker than 500 TGIDS, I hope they programed it to display by broadcast site with TGID.

The Wi-FI edition Seems to be a neat feature, But how about make it work with just wireless speakers and with a $600 price tag, make the GPS and Wi-Fi system track a unit in the event it is stolen!

The number of channels/TG's total would only be limited by the memory space on the uSD card, so with the stock 4GB card it would be a lot more than the 25,000 the 996XT is said to hold. Also I don't think either the wi-fi or GPS would be very effective for finding a stolen unit since they are both easily removable from the unit at the rear 9-pin and rear USB port of the 536.

Steve,
Have no fear that the 536HP will work great with VIPER.

Thanks for the heads up.

$599? Really...smh. I could buy an HF radio for that kind of money.

Guess I'll wait and see what Whistler/GRE are coming out with.

I am on a list with a local retailer. I don't like that Scanner Master will charge before they ship. I could see maybe a down payment to hold it. Say $100.

I'm not impressed by the QK logic, if I read it correctly. The XTs do what I want, up to their limits of 20 grp/sys and 500 id/sys. Not sure I'd be able to get the sites turning on & off properly across multiple systems with a single keypress.

Why would one want to turn off sites?

Let me use an example from where I am right now. A number of sites for the local trunk system are in range, but the furthest away of them (the ones 'in range') is weak and scratchy. That one needs to be locked out, because Uniden uses all sites it can get a CC on, not just the strongest.

Hmm, ok, I can see that. makes sense.

In that case you would use FF.SS.DD to turn off the site you don't want to receive.

Example:
Favorites list 01 has system assigned to SQK 04. That system has 15 Departments assigned to DQK 1-15 and 10 sites assigned to DQK 51-60.

If you want to turn off the site assigned to DQK 55, you would:

01.04.55 <E>

That will take some getting used to because I am accustomed to the 396/996 behavior. I would expect Sites and Systems to share Quick Keys instead of Sites and Departments. With multi-site systems, I ALWAYS enable/disable Sites individually with Quick Keys... I can't think of a time when I would want to disable a whole multi-site system at one time.

Not a big deal... just different. I am rebuilding my setup in Sentinel a little at a time to be ready.

Will the unit scan through one larger favorites list divided into systems faster than multiple smaller favorites lists?

Really? You always want to monitor a multi-site system no matter where you are? There are many times when I am not in the area served by a multi-site system and don't want to monitor it.

The Sites being with the Department Quick Keys just makes sense (well, more sense than with the System Quick Keys). I would rather have one System with all the TGs and UIDs and be able to control the Sites within that System as opposed to having to create a duplicate System for each Site. Been there and done that with the T series - don't want to go back.

I have the feeling this is one of those features that will have initial complaints, but after a month or two people will be praising the scheme over the previous one and wondering why they ever criticized it. You have never before been able to control the sites individually without System duplication.

I would imagine it's "6 of one - half dozen of the other". (same difference)
