Universal Radio supposedly doesn't bill until it ships.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Thanks fro the info.

I've ordered from them several times in the past without any problems at all.

Their price is the same as Scanner Master.

Regards

I'm prefer SM charged me during my order. First it prevents me from spending the money on something else by accident and then be SOL when it is released. Second it puts me near the top of the list since I preordered. By preordering SM can put in there order with there distributors on how many units they need.

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Who else besides Scanner Master is allowing a "Pre-Order" for the 536/436 ?

I see that Scanner Master clearly states that they will charge your credit card right away. They don't wait until they ship the unit.

At this time of the year, I'd rather not have that cash lost as I could use it for X-Mas shopping.

I did use it for X-Mas shopping.... for me! :D Those darn kids get toys every year. It was Daddy's turn, dammit! ;)

hard to believe no one still has MPT-1327

As much as I am a big proponent of adding all open source/publicized trunking protocols, and delivering them as optional software modules (which I hope is in Paul's/Uniden's business plan), the issue would appear to be that the market in the USA and Canada is still relatively small for things like MPT - in other words, Uniden may not get a good return on their investment (meaning they won't make enough in sales of the software update to recover the costs of engineering it).

What sort of bandwidth does the wireless use when broadcasting? My wife telecommutes and there are days when every bit counts. My guess is not much. Thanks

Paul would know the specifics, but it's probably more than a simple audio feed because you're streaming the alpha tags too as well. Not to mention it looks like you have control over the scanner, so you can see a decent amount going back to the scanner too. Hopefully Uniden will let you control the actual bit rate for the audio going to the app. I doubt everyone will need 44.1 or whatever it is and can get by with something like 16.

If Video streaming is any indication:

1080p video streaming from a Bluray source can hit 45Mb/s peak on my PopCorn Hour.

That being said, I can easily watch a movie on my iPhone over 3G via Plex from the same source. Plex will transcode on the fly.

Does your Wife use Voice apps via Wi-Fi as well? Those would be the ones most affected. Web based text apps should degrade gracefully enough. Your Wi-Fi is N? on A or B/G ? Or are you worried about your Internet connection itself... ? In this case, what's your ISP provided bandwidth upstream?

That's the sampling rate, not the bit-rate although it affects the end result as well...

You may have meant bit-rate for bandwidth :)

My guess is that the app<>scanner comm channel is just the same or similar serial data specified in the control protocols and that the app reproduces the visual experience locally, plus an audio stream. So probably plenty low enough bandwidth to work over >= 3G.

FYI, I just pre-ordered the 536 and 436 from Universal Radio and was told shipping and insurance would be $25.

Cancel that order and order from Scanner Master. I ordered my BCD536HP yesterday and you get free shipping.
