I hate for my first post to be a bit negative but need some help. My wife is disappointed in her new scanner and asking my why it is broken.

I purchased this scanner for her on 1/17/15. I programmed it and set it up on her desk in the shack. It has worked good and she really loves it. Seems to receive well and does a great for he listening to local repeaters. She has mastered operation and loves it. No worries there.

Problem is when we let it sit for a day or two it looses memory. When we turn it on requires a reset for date and time. We noticed it first after a few days away and it has been doing this ever since. It stays plugged in and we have not had a power loss.

I am a general class amateur license holder so quite familiar with how equipment should operate and this is not what I expected to happen with a 5 month old piece of equipment.

Advice is appreciated.

Thanks

There is an issue with the battery powering the Real Time Clock. Something to do with the charging/discharging cyle.

If you could leave the scanner on for a couple of days to allow this battery to re-charge itself, that might be helpful. Just turn the volume down low during that period. For some reason 50 hours sticks in my mind as a re-charge time.

Thanks so much for the replies. I should have known to look for a sticky or use search before posting. I was also at HRO yesterday and they mentioned it was a known issue and their display unit has the same problem. They didn't mention the temporary fix so I will let them know it's there.

I am updating as I speak to give her a solution and a smile for Mother's day.

I just use the scan feature with programmed frequencies on my IC-9100 to listen to local AZDPS which is my main interest. But she likes being able to listen to local PD where the digital side of the 536 does the job well.

Again, Thanks for the reply guys. Got me going again.

I wouldn't call that a fix of any kind; more a workaround, since the 'fix' doesn't 'fix' anything, just avoids the problem.
