Nothing. The BCD536HP is considered the top model. BCD996P2 is a lower-priced alternative with fewer features.

Will 536 perform any better with a 32 GB card 95 MB SD memory card compared to the 32GB with 48 MB?

996XT vs 996p2

Anybody compare the 996 XT to the 996P2? I am VERY disappointed with the P25 LSM capabilities of the XT and was hoping that Uniden finally made a scanner that actually decoded Trunked P25 systems as they claim is should. I also find the controls on the 536HP very unfriendly...but it does decode P25 LSM a bit better than the 996XT

If you get a SanDisk Extreme Pro MicroSDHC UHS-1 card , the BCD536HP scans 10 times faster! I have 2 BCD536HP's and a 436HP , I formatted the cards with SDFormatter its the best way.

I sure don't.
The 536 can only write and read to the SD card so fast and that limit appears to be under a Class 10 card.
For me, a Class 4 card writes/reads in the 536 just as fast as any faster card telling me that something in the radio tops out around Class 4 or maybe slightly faster.

The SanDisk Extreme Pro shaved a whopping 0.2 seconds off my favorite load time at power on and actually scanning so my 20 second startup time to load my favorites from the SD card is still 20 seconds even with a card that can do 90MB/s in an external USB3 reader.

Once your favorites are loaded from the SD card, the SD card is really only used for audio recording so it really does not come into play when the scanner is scanning. Audio sure does not need 90 MB/s. You could fit several high quality HD video streams into that.

If you really want to see what different speed SD cards make, load up a large set of favorites that take 20 or more seconds to load with a class 4 card and then put those same favorites on a 90MB/s U3 speed class card and tell me that it takes way less time to load the same favorites into the radio. It does not load faster because the radio can only read/write the SD card so fast.
The radio does not use the SD card when it is scanning. Everything is in memory at that stage.

edit: it does use the SD card for audio recording but audio recording is very minimal bandwidth.

996p2 phase II systems

Having a very hard time with my 996p2 getting it to receive phase II system. (Carroll County , Maryland) my 436 pics the system up perfectly sitting next to the 996p2. Am within the county and 436shows full signal. Thinking I don't have the settings for the system correct. Occasionally it will get a part of a conversation on one or two talkgroup but most nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Check to make sure that the trunk system has all the control channels. I noticed I downloaded a P25 P2 system there other day here in CT and it only downloaded one of the 6 control channels

I paid the $50 for Proscan. My free scan won't program the 996P2 for some reason or I at least haven't gotten a firmware/software update. [emoji107]

There is a Beta version of Freescan and it seems to work. I did just realize that the Range for the system and site were set at only 1 mile....just adjusted that to see if it makes a difference. Still not sure which system type to pick.....none of the choices in menu define P25 Phase II.

I have a 996P2 running on Maryland FiRST, a phase 2 system - works fine. The new Carroll County system is a mix of phase 1 and phase 2. Sheriff, state police and fire are phase 1 at this time.
