Hello:
I am getting ready to buy a couple of Phase II scanners. I have the HP1 with advance pack, kinda like it. My other equipment is mostly RS.

I started reading reviews and saw a lot of comments that the remote connectivity to the BCD536HP is not working or a future feature. Can anyone confirm that this scanner is network compatible and works for remote control access across the Internet?

Beyond that, what are the major issues right now?

Should I wait for a new model or look at other brands.

Thanks....

I bought the BCD536HP on May 26. I downloaded the “Siren” app onto my iPhone (mine is a 4S, however the description of “Siren” says “optimized for iPhone 5”). It took a few minutes to configure the scanner and the iPhone with the correct IP address. In less than 5 minutes, I was receiving scanner audio through the iPhone. There is about a half-second delay from when a control function is pressed on the iPhone to when it occurs on the scanner. And about a three-second delay from when you hear audio on the scanner to when the same audio is heard on the iPhone.

You cannot control scanner volume with the iPhone. Adjusting the volume on one, does not affect the other. What is interesting is that, even though the “Siren” app appears the same as the HP-1, you actually see the names of the services while “scanning”, rather than the round spinning thingy on the HP-1.

With your home network (wireless router), “Siren” works as advertised. Yes, all the functions are not yet available, but hopefully they soon will be.

Right now, the BCD536HP is the ONLY scanner with this Wi-Fi feature. If you don’t have any need for what “Siren” will allow you to do, than you can get the less-expensive BCD996P2, which is the same as the BCD996XT, but with Phase 2 capability.

Personally, I like the larger, easier to read display of the 536 and the audio, through its internal speaker, is simply amazing.

The remote control currently works on a local network, or on the internet with some user intervention. The internet support will be a future implementation according to Uniden. When that happens, no user intervention will be required. They also have some other features that are not yet public knowledge in the works.
