When writing a new file to the scanner it does not always take. As in after writing to the radio when I shut down to get back into serial mode it does not show writing to sd card and it doesnt show up in the radio. If I do not do anything with the software it will save an shut down. It is the same with Sentinal, Arcpro and proscan. and I can not control virtually. It shown not communicationg even thow it shows up in the windo for communicating. I'm so confused.

The scanner must be on when you plug in the cable to be able to press E to enter USB Mass Storage. Does the scanner screen display USB Mass Storage?

You turn the power after writing to the scanner, or pull the cable?

Your answer leaves a lot to be desired.

Was meant to be simple and concise because the solution is obvious.

Your shutting down the scanner before the programming is completed. Same reason you don't turn the scanner off before a firmware update is completed. Scanner has to cycle and update the SD Card without a power interruption.

What month is it?
Why not try and get your question clarified.... (It's not exactly clear).

Writing to the radio and "controlling virtually" are two completely different things.

1. Writing to the radio requires mass storage mode (hit "E" when prompted and the display will say mass storage mode).
Did you get the mass storage mode message on the display?
Does Sentinel complete the write to scanner (do you get the Sentinel on-screen confirmation that the write was completed?
If yes to the above, it shouldn't matter if you power down or pull the cord, it will power cycle and the info is in the radio.

2. "Controlling virtually" requires serial mode and is the . when prompted (or will default to serial after a bit).

When you complete your "Write to Scanner" process, do you unmount the scanner, as in going to Windows Explorer and eject the SD card/scanner? I've heard a story or two that failing to unmount may cause issues with the SD card.

I haven't experienced this myself, but have seen posts from others who have.

In the profile, Download and Monitor must both be On for any favorites list you write to the scanner. Download sends the file to the scanner. Monitor enables it to scan.

A lot of this is obvious and I thought i was doing these things as i learned more. I understand the serial and mass storage mode. I wait for the program to pop up finished writing to scanner. I also have download and monitor checked. I've never had an issue before. I could just power cycle to go from mass storage to serial without issue. And it would give the writing to sd card notice. The only thing I didn't try was unmounting the card in windows. But again never had an issue before. But these are good suggestions. I do have a new sd card on the way just in case it is getting corrupted. I apologize for sounding rude or ungrateful.

I think it has to be two different things here. Whenever you switch off the scanner it will write to the SD card to save its current configuration, what the current channel are in the scan cycle, what fav lists you have enabled and so on, to be able to start up in the exact same state again.

The SD card save will also happen when you insert the USB cable, to be able to go back to the exact same scanner state after the programming are done.

When you program new data into the scanner it will continuously save data to the SD card but will say nothing about it on the display. If you power off the scanner it will probably not say that it is saving to SD card as it already have done that when you inserted the USB cable.

If you say that the new data you programmed do not exists in the scanner, then it's a problem but usually it would says something about SD card write error. If you only note that it doesn't say saving to SD card then that's how it normally works and your new data should be in the scanner.

Virtual control requires a special Uniden serial driver to work.

When I write new info to scanner and then power down via the radio knob it will not show updating sd card. But if I turn it back on let it cycle through loading then power off it will say writing to sd card. It is a weird situation. I have a new card on the way.

That's a normal situation. Look at the explanation I wrote.

Don't forget, when using Windows, Sentinel may return and say write is successfully completed, but that is only filling the write buffer on the computer. Windows delays all writes for several seconds.
That is why you should "eject" the "mass storage drive" as that process forces an immediate write and will not "return" until all buffers have been cleared.

Before your new SD card arrives, try this.. Plug the scanner into your windows USB port. Select MASS STORAGE on the scanner. Do NOT run Sentinel!

Now in windows file manager, right-click on the "new drive" and check the file system on the drive for any errors.

I am about 80% sure that you will find the file system on that SD card will show errors.

Actually it shows an error. Then its ok. I ran a fix and it said ok. All I know is it is acting differently the it used to. Now using the elect mass storage in windows it does seem to help. Cars women and computers. I understand them less and less everyday. Sometimes all i can say is I dunno. Doh.
