New 996P2. I've programmed several conventional Systems using FreeScan, to include a System Number Tag for each (System 1 T001, System 2 T002, etc.)

When I hold on a frequency and press the Function Key, the System Number Tag is displayed for each of the Systems, but there are no Channel Number Tags. (i.e., T001.--- T002.---).

I there something that I must do to have the scanner assign Channel Number Tags?

I can find nothing in the manual regarding the assignment of Channel Number Tags. Only how to go to a particular frequency by using the System and Channel Number Tags.

Channel Number Tags are not displayed - period (on the P2 series). Well, unless you add them to the text tag (which is different from assigning them to the channel/Dept/System).

Are they not displayed, or not created?

Adding them to a text tag is of no use, as that cannot be used for a "goto".

And the ability to quickly go to a particular frequency is what I was hoping to be able to do.

Sure they are. Just edit the channel>Set Number Tag. They will display in function mode.

To go to a channel, Hold on any system. Enter the system number, press .No, then the channel number and press MENU. Press Hold to resume.

Thanks you Trunker!!!!! Spot on.

What I missed was assigning the Channel Number Tag manually. I thought it was something that the scanner assigned automatically.

Also, the Channel Number Tag entry location on the FreeScan display was off the screen to the right (hence I did not see it before).

Did a quick test this morning, and by Yimminy, it works!

Uhhh... that's not a normal display mode. Of course they show when you enter or edit them...

SOME scanner models will show the tag while a channel is being scanned. The 996P2 is NOT one of those models.

Correct in that it does not show the System Tag Number or the Channel Tag Number "while scanning".

However, if it stops on a channel, or you HOLD and go to a channel, pressing the Function key will display the System Tag Number and the Channel Tag Number.
