The 996p2 is an updated 996xt. This is from a 996 manual I found. Do the following these steps get you to a screen to set location?

Just curious if you use freescan to program? If so, can you send a copy of the programming here?

I do have this. My latitude for South is 38 degrees 42' 31. 91 N. Longitude is 076 degrees 48' 35. 45 W. Range is 14.0 miles. For North the latitude is 38 degrees 55' 22. 91 N. Longitude is 076 degrees 48' 02. 26 W. Also a range of 14.0 miles.

Ok, so if the scanner knows you are more than 14 miles away from south, based on your scanners location, its gonna say nothing to scan. You can do 1 of 2 things. You can either edit that 14 mile range on the south site to a higher number (I use 50 mile to ensure I dont miss stuff by me) or if the scanner has a setting based on where the scanner actually is, and how far it will scan from that location, you can increase that setting.

Interesting vid explaining how location based scanning works on 352 and 996p2.

Strange, I changed it to 50 miles and it's still saying "Scan Mode Nothing to scan" when I have South on but North off.

I wouldn't mess with location to troubleshoot this.

See if you are receiving the Control Channel on the display.

If you don't receive that, you're out of range.
If the location settings are preventing him to see the site, then he would not be able to see the cc on the screen i would think..

You said earlier you had North and South on the same quick key. Did you give each its own quick key and then save that info in the scanner? You also said you changed it to 50 miles. Which did you change? The site range or the scan range?

I'd be tempted to bring the scanner close to any one of the south system's sites and give it a listen. If it clears up, that confirms a distance issue. If not, then something is off in programming, such as site attenuation, missing control channel frequency etc.

I gave each site it's own quick key. I now changed it back from 50 miles to 14 miles since it didn't see to change anything, however I can change it back. I changed specifically the site range.

You might want to try setting up North as one system and South as a separate system, then assign them separate quick keys. Sounds like you have both set up together as one system.

No! You should set up one system with two sites. The system quick keys are assigned to the sites. With a single system, you only need to worry about one set of group quick keys.
That’s his problem. The radio is latching onto the strongest CC (North) and won’t check for any others. I’m not that familiar with the 996XT, but my 396T will only latch onto one CC no matter how many I have in the system. I have to set up other sites as seperate systems. Works on the 396T like a charm. It will only let go if it loses the CC.
