Did a 2,9,hold reset and now just flashes startup screen (Bearcat BCD996P2 screen),does not go any further. How do I fix?
Your Reset cleared all programming from the scanner.

Reload your programming file (if using software), or program frequencies manually.

When you press the Menu key, do you see the Menu coices available?

Hmm

I would try a couple of things before deciding it needs to go in for repair.

Turn it off & leave it off for awhile, just in case something internally overheated.
I would also try another reset, then see if it will let you load a programming file (if you are using software).

If neither of those makes a difference, is it still under warranty? (Less than a year old?) If so, I would initiate the repair process with Uniden.

One other thing to try, if you want, would be to take a look inside the scanner. Remove the screws holding the outer case to the chassis, then check for any loose cables. The ribbon cables occasionally back out a bit, so making sure that they are tightly seated is something to check.

Has it recently been dropped? Or any power surges that could have damaged something?

No have had it several years, was working fine until reset.
OK, since this would not be a warranty issue, I'd still try to reset again, just in case the first time went astray. I'd also pop the case & check for any loose cables and/or components on the boards.

It might not make a difference, but it would not hurt to see if you can update the firmware, even if you had done that before. In theory, a reset would not affect the firmware, but it's worth a try before sending it in. Uniden's repair rate for this model is $89.95, which includes $10 for return shipping. You would pay the cost to send it in, which would vary depending on whether you used (ground) UPS or Fedex, or USPS Priority mail. The key, if returning for repair, is to use a shipper that gives you a tracking number. I would also suggest including a short note with a description of the issue, as well as your contact information.

I would suspect a firmware problem. Here is the updater you will need. Install it on your computer, connect the scanner, select the model number, and follow the instructions. The first screen is programmable by the configuration editor. Try sending the configuration editor to the scanner to see what happens. The editor is separate in ARC-XT.

Did you ever try doing a software update which was on or about the end of March 2018? The latest version(1.08.01) We both have the same BCD-996P2. They are highly reliable base/mobile scanners.
I would also call 800-297-1023 which is Uniden American Customer Service before I send it in and pay $89.95 too.
Hope this helps you out.
