I am planning on mounting my BCD996T in my truck. For external speakers by Uniden, I see 7, 15 and 20 watt. Is there any limit to what wattage speaker the scanner can support?

I have 20 watt Uniden speakers running off of my 996XT's.....at times, especially on the P25 channels, with softer talking dispatchers, it can be a bit low. Get one of the new amplified Uniden speakers, and you won't ave to worry about what the scanner will output, the amp will suppl all the juice. :)

Not all if any professioanl grade speakers have audio filtering in them. Perhap you are thinking of the many amateur radio speakers for hf type radios that have filtering. Most all profession grade radios have filtered audio and better amplification before it leaves the radio and that is why they will always sound supperior to a Uniden scanner. Uniden refuses to filter the audio and use quality amplifiers simply to protect their profit margin.

You can get loud audio from an amplified external speaker on a Uniden scanner but it will sound very tinty with lot of high frequency componets that don't belong, that cheap scanner audio I like to call it. With the addition of some audio filtering the audio can be cleaned up and approach the quality of a professional grade radio.

I have a 996T in my auto with the remote head since the scanner is under the passenger seat I need an external speaker. I find the MOT RSN4001A has plenty of audio. Thie is a non-amplified 13 w speaker, list price $66, often avallable online new for about $40, I bought mine from a MOT dealer new in the box for $24 with the bracket and screws. Sounds fine, needs only a 2 wire cable to the scanner.

To find that WD9HSY seller:

go to ebay.com
upper right, click on "advanced" next to search button
then on the left side, under "members" click on "find a member"
enter WD9HSY
enter the verification code
you should get a match, then on the right side, click on "seller's items"

that ought to do it for you.
