My 996T is set up to scan a wide area p25 9600b digital system (state of colorado) I have the memories programmed to seperate counties through out the state. In each of these seperate systems I will have several tower sites. The problem I have with the 996t versus the pro-96 is that even though it has a lock on a strong tower it will still drop that tower after the hold time and scanning the other remaining towers that are located in the system that I am listening to. Is this how this radio functions or do I have a setting wrong somewhere. My pro-96 will stay locked on a tower until it loses it and then it searches for another tower which makes sense. Am I able to make the 996t do this?

Thanks for your help

If you are receving voice transmissions while locked onto a tower site, the radio will stay on the control channel until activity stops.

If there is no voice transmission (activity), the radio will continue to scan the other systems that you have programmed according to your system hold time.

I can suggest 2 things:

1. Increase your system hold time for what you want to hear most.
2. Since you're scanning a large system area, lock out some of the other systems except for the primary ones you want to hear.

Hope this helps.

I recommend the gps function. Once you get the system set up properly it will do exactly what you are trying to accomplish.
