I am looking at a Uniden 996T-APCO25, my question is how can I have it so it will pick up encripted frequencies such as the the frequencies used by the local law enforcement agencies (OPP,some Toronto police divisions ), is there a program that I can download into the unit?
hopefully someone can answer this question before I purchase this item.

You cannot pick up encrypted signals. And that goes for ANY scanner.

You CAN pick up digital (APCO-25, etc.) signals on the 996.

They are not one in the same.

It's Illegal to listen to encrypted talkgroups so there is no reason to discuss any further :) Closed

Digga, I've had this thread moved to the Eastern Canada forum where you'll get more help then where you originally posted.

The BC996T or any other scanner will not decode digitally encrypted signals.

However, only the OPP Investigative talkgroups and a few Toronto PS talkgroups are encrypted. The rest are digital but not encrypted.
