BCD996T vs BCD396T

I am looking to purchase a new scanner to join the scanning world! After looking at a lot of scanners I think I have narrowed it down to these two. But can someone tell me what the differences are between the two, besides the obvious size / portability.
Mainly I was wondering what the reception and performance differences were. Which one is superior?

Size doesn't matter , a decent antenna does.

Be aware that the RH96 remote head is coming out in February. It's exactly like the front panel of the 996, and you will be able to control a 396 (or 996, heh) with it. So, it'd be a solid move to get the 396 now and buy the RH96 in 3 months. It should be $199 or less.
