bcd996t wont connect to computer

hey ive been away for a long time I broke out my bcd996t and am trying to program it but I cant connect it to my computer with a usb to serial cable any sugestions

Let's start with your USB cable - are you running Win 8.x? Micro-stupid made this a royal pain in the arse to deal with now. It's very touchy about having the right drivers. What make/model are you using?

You must also set up the ports on the scanner itself. The user guide has a page devoted to this (it's hosted in our wiki)...

OK now what make / model USB cable are you using? There are several that are not Win8.x compatible; if you are using the USB-1, and you got it from Scanner Master, you should download the drivers from there and install them BEFORE plugging in the cable. It's likely that you got the one with the newer chipset, if that's the case.

And if it is an older USB-1, it may have the HXA chipset, which is kind of pesky with Win 8.x.

The newest USB-1 cables have the HXD chipset, which gets along with Win 8.x much better.
