Hi, I've had my BCD996XT for about 3 weeks now and still learning much and love it. I've just about added what I want for my local area for law enforcement which is my primary interest and some fire but I seem to get a lot of road crew stuff which except for during bad weather where it's helpful, is annoying after awhile. How can I filter this out, is it via ID scan rather than ID search that I may have read somewhere here? Thanks for your help.

1) It would help to know exactly what system or county you are scanning.

2) I'm going to have to assume that you are scanning a trunked radio system. ID Scan mode will monitor only those channels you have programmed, while ID Search mode will monitor all traffic on the system.

Hi UPMan, thanks for your response, yes it's a trunked ARMER system and I'm monitoring several counties here in Central MN.

BCD996XT: Filtering Out Shared Freqs, Unwanted Traffic

I listen to the Minnesota ARMER System, too, and I generally go to the TRUNK SEARCH mode, but then simply lockout the talkgroups that I am not interested in. You may already know this, but you can either do a temporary lockout or a permanent lockout. I use permanent lockout on talkgroups like Metro Transit. I use temporary lockout on MN-DOT and things that I might want to listen to occasionally. That works very well for me and if I simply power down and then power up, the temporarily locked out talkgroups are monitored again until I lock them out again.

Thanks JASII, by trunked search you mean ID search? I have some groups permanently locked out by checking the box like transit etc., but yeah I may try the temp lockout when they come up. I do like to listen to road crews in my immediate area when weather warrants but other than that I couldn't care less. I have all of my local and nearby (Benton, Stearns, Sherbourne so far) PD, SO, MSP programmed in which is all that I'm interested in, some fire but may start locking those out except for immediate area.

Yes, I am sorry about the confusion, indeed it is ID SEARCH.
