I'm thinking about purchasing the BCD996XT. I have almost no room to install it in my 2007 Ford Escape, so I was thinking about taking out the commercial radio and placing this in it's place. I've looked around the web to see that this is possible physically. I would like to find out if this scanner is capable of picking up commercial radio traffic as well (AM and FM), so I wouldn't have to buy an aftermarket commercial radio to fill the other single DIN space. I am also thinking of utilizing the OEM antenna, power supply, dashlight control, and perhaps the OEM audio system as well.

Has anyone else tried this, or thought of trying? Thanks! BC

FM yes, AM no....

You can use the OEM antenna but you will need an adpater to convert it to BNC on the scanner side...
I dont know about the OEM car stereo power supply but the 996XT comes with both cigarette lighter adapter, and a red/black/orange wiring so you can probably hook it up to red and black ... and if the orange is properly hooked up youll have the diming control (orange wire)

996XT also comes with the DIN sleeve and removal keys...
