No disrespect, you have been dedicated to the scanner community and an asset to your company, but "Action speaks louder then words".

I've been saying that for years. That's exactly why I stopped buying Uniden. It seems they throw new radios out on the market, and leave it up to the customer to figure out whats wrong with it. Then try to address only some of the issues people are having. Believe me, I know. I still have a $600 dollar BCD396T paper weight sitting in it's original box in the closet. Total waste money. Even after all there so called firmware updates. It still never addressed the issues. As a matter of fact, made it worse. Now, I can't even program it with the software I paid an additional $40 dollars to program it, plus another 30 dollars for a subscription to this website. So i'm sorry if it offends people here, but I refuse to pay that kinda money for something just to be ignored when it comes to needing support for it, or Uniden rolling out there band aid fixes that may or may not fix your issues.

I agree. My 396XT still sounds like trash compared to my PSR-500. It has been out for 2 years now and has been in need of a serious fix for the digital decoding forever..

Yeah you can't go wrong with GRE products that's for sure.

That just goes to show you that results will vary with location, antenna used, systems being monitored, etc because here in NC both my 396XT & 996XT (along with my HP-1) receive better than any GRE in my collection. I monitor a variety of systems types and in my experience the Unidens work better. But to each their own. :)
For the millionth time: I own both GRE & Uniden scanners in my collection and each brand has pluses and minuses. As well as each brand having specific features I cannot get in the other companies radios.

Oh yes you can. Build quality to me in the GRE line is not as good as Unidens and
the front end of their radios is way too hot for the systems I listen to.
Even with all of the Uniden Haterade being consumed here the true answer is
always go with the radios that give you the features you want to use on a daily basis.
My Unidens have the features I need for daily use so I will stick with them.

And you are 100% correct in saying that. The issue we have here is customer support. READ THE POSTS. Not just the ones that offended you. As far as build quality goes. Uniden could build it out of titanium for all I care, but if you don't actually do something to support it, you defeat the whole purpose.

I don't care how the XTs work for other people in other locations.Mine is broken.

My 396T is pretty good and I can live with the digital decoding that I get from it if that is the best that Uniden can do. The problem is with my 396XT. For some reason Uniden took away the option to manually adjust the digital threshold. The auto adjustment of the digital threshold on my 396XT is dismal. I just want a manual adjustment on the XT like my 396T. I am not alone on this as several of us have made the same request.

The silence from Uniden on a firmware upgrade with this simple fix has been deafening. The XTs were broken before they hit the shelves. How about an attempt to fix them? It has been over 2 years since I took delivery. I bought mine the first week they were out.

I started out as a Uniden fan. I only bought my PSR-500 after months of frustration with my 396XT.

Marshall, If someones Uniden scanner burst into flames and complained on here, you would answer that the instant campfire feature worked well for you and that the smores came out great.

The ability to understand the audio is the most important feature of a scanner. Without that feature the rest of the package is irrelevant. I don't care if the thing makes biscuits and gravy and fetches cold beers. If the audio isn't good, It is junk.

Your Haterade remark is pompous B$%^&T. I owned 2 Unidens before I bought my GRE and I only did that after months of being frustrated with my 396XT. I started out as a Uniden fan but the lack of a resolution to my problem has driven me away.

Marshall,

Here you go again, jumping into a thread about users that have problems with the Uniden model they own. You try to convince them they don't have problems, they do or they wouldn't be complaining. I own scanners from both companies and I like them both, but the XT model has a few problems and the users here would like to see Uniden get involved in doing something. You post about these things and watch the new flag ship model get all the attention and users bowing down to UPMan and the staff about the updates/fixes, I'd like to be one of the users bowing, but at this point I can't. I for one got jumped on for posting in the HP-1 forum, so we came here hoping Uniden would read these comments and get involved in making the XT owners as happy as the HP-1 owners. That's all we're asking, can't you accept that!

Silly me, I thought threads were for everyone to share their experiences.

You try to convince them they don't have problems,

Please don't accuse me of saying things I have not said. I have only related my experiences with radio monitoring here in Central NC. I have not tried to convince anyone that they "don't have problems". I have only related my experiences monitoring with both GRE & Uniden radios here in Central NC.

Like all companies these days Uniden has a fixed amount for R&D, testing, marketing, and bringing products to consumers. Obviously UPMan has seen the vitriol present in this thread. It is up to his bosses as to when (or if) an update for the XT radios will be offered.
