I agree!

Actually I listen to one hell of a large simulcast system in VIPER.

And before you even go there, yes VIPER is actually a Smartzone system but the Wake County part of VIPER operates in Simulcast format
and has both analog & digital TGs.

I have also used both my 396XT and 996XT (and HP-1) on other simulcast systems across NC as well as in SC.

So your assumption would be wrong.
Marshall KE4ZNR

I have to concur with Marshall's findings. In the greater Charleston, SC area, we have the Palmetto 800 system, which has an architecture like NC's VIPER system. Then there's the Palmetto Project 25 system in Charleston County proper, which is simulcast over a number of towers in the area. The Uniden scanners I use work just as well as any GRE scanners that other enthusiasts have in the area. Now, there are some spots where no scanners work very well, but those places are known and are consistently poor regardless of radio manufacturer.

I understand that some folks are saying GRE products work better in their areas and conditions, but I don't see how the reason can be as simple as simulcast systems only cause problems in Uniden scanners. There has to be more to it than that, or we would all be seeing the same issues, and we are not.

I guess I live in a particularly bad area for multipath. That does not change the fact that my PSR-500 works fine and my 396T can be adjusted to work well and my 396XT can't.

The 396T only works well with a manual digital threshold setting of 11, not 10 or 12 but 11. It will not work with an automatic threshold setting either. Christ, just just give me a manual threshold setting option for the 396XT and I will shut up.

I am really glad for you guys that don't have issues with your 396XTs but I am not so lucky.

Dan,

Your not going to get Marshall to agree with you, look at it this way, this thread was about updates/additions and fixes for the XT models, he came in and posted how great it is in NC, has nothing to do with what this thread was discussing. Users know there are problems that need attention with the XT models, the ball is in Unidens court, let's see how they play it!

Here in IL on the Starcom Digital 700/800 System my Uniden 396XT sounds and decodes perfect.....Maybe each system is different....My GRE500 sounds great when it ever decides to decode the system which is hardly ever.....

Good for you, others have problems. We're looking for updates not how good your unit works. If you want, create a thread on how good your 396XT decodes Starcom.

Go start a thread, your situation has no relevance to this thread. Some of us have issues with our XTs when we listen to the systems that are local to us.

I believe his or her point was that clearly not everybody is having problems.

I agree with you and your statement is correct, but, go into the HP-1 thread and say that you think the HP-1 scanner is a waste and depends on the database to function and you believe that it's a waste of money. Your told to stay on topic or start your own thread. So we did, talking about updates/fixes/additions and others say how good the scanner is not keeping the thread on topic, they should start their own thread about how happy they are. No disrespect, but we'd like to keep it on topic. You and I know it's all about the Uniden - GRE thing. I was warned in the HP-1 thread about asking for updates for the XT and haven't posted in it since.

Corrections to statements made here about the PSR-800

The PSR-800 does not rely on the RR database alone. While in search mode you can store frequencies into the radio.

Built in IF discriminator data output can be enabled to the headphone jack and can be used with UniTrunker, Trunk88, and Treport decoders with a standard stereo audio patch cord.
