They usually have just the box on display. The actual unit is in the back on a shelf or in a cage in a card board housing with all of the accessories and manuals. She must be an inexperienced employee. If you haven't already check back with the store. If the box is still there and chances are the scanner is there.

I would have raised the roof! That would be false advertising. If their computer system didn't tell the --out of stock-- then, You could've still gotten it. Dang! Better luck next sale

Don't know if this post will make you feel better or worse :)

I am still reading reports of people picking up 'clearance' 996xt's for as little as $99 at some RS outlets.

I bet Uniden are pissed off that this is occurring at the same time as the RS and Whistler scanners are hitting the market hard and diluting the relatively small (compared to mobile phones and game consols etc) marketplace even further.

Leaving aside the Phase 2 capability of the x36HP, it is a bit of a stretch to expect consumers to pay $600 for a 'digital' scanner that does not even do what it promises to do on the carton, when at worst the popular 996XT's are being virtually given away at RS stores and at best the 'new' RS/Whistler models are still $200 cheaper.

The radio scanner market sure is F@#$ed up at the moment!
