Showing on Amazon from Abetterwaytobuy

Just ordered from them. They must have quite an abundance. They've sold over 10 on their eBay account and are down to 18 left on their Amazon account. $515 no tax/shipping. I'm done with waiting for these other vendors to update us on their quantities and ship dates.

From what I understand, The bigger distributors were shipped from Uniden last Friday. One located in Texas, had them on Monday.

Let's see how long it takes to ship

HamStation sent my 436 out late Monday afternoon and this morning it is in a Fedx Truck 45 miles away, so I should get it today as was predicted by Fedx in the beginning.

My 436 should have arrived today. Who would ever think that a ice/sleet event would affect Alabama / Florida. I stood a better chance playing the lottery.

My 536 was supposed to be delivered tomorrow. :(

UPS just sent email saying:

"Weather conditions might delay delivery of this shipment. This is the most current information available. Please track again later for status updates."

But its in JAX which is 70 miles north. Its not snowing in JAX.... :D

I didn't see that anyone posted this but i might have missed it.

I just called Scanner Master. They have a recorded message that says the 436 will ship this Friday and to look for an email with a tracking number by 3pm that day.

Lets hope for super quick delivery and sunshine!

I think its UPS, so I will probably get it Monday or Tuesday.

BCD536HP Arrived from Universal Radio

The fun begins, I just received my BCD536HP from the good folks at Universal Radio! Now I have something to play around with while I wait for my BCD436HP to arrive from Ham Radio Outlet in the next week or so.

I was surprised how heavy this thing is, reminds me of the early Realistic scanners (the good ones). Speaking of which I still have a Pro-2004 I use for monitoring the air bands, still kicking many years later. I digress, time to start getting to know my BCD536HP.

Entire box was just under 8 pounds including the shipping peanuts. The radio itself weighs just under 3.5 lbs with nothing attached.

I suspect the new radios have good new technology inside them. Why else would the 536 feel so substantial?
I remember a time when companies who may have moved to using lighter materials in manufacturing would add weight to whatever they were making.
This extra weight was built in in order to help it "feel" more substantial than it really was.

I doubt Uniden would do that due to the extra shipping cost involved.

In any event, my 536 is churning away. The 436 is on its way.

I am ( like so many others) really looking forward to having the radio streaming at the least over my personal home network.
I have visions of mounting the radio in the ceiling ( like the network) next to a discone in ( not on the roof) the roof, and accessing it from the four corners of the planet.
I do still wonder what form of audio digitization the 536 will be using when streaming.
Is it the same as the recorded sound which is stored on the memory chip?
The idea that the wifi requires a dongle seems silly since the wifi chip is probably smaller than a 10mm package. The same is true of GPS. Why Uniden does not put them together in the dongle ( since there must be a dongle) also seems shortsighted.

It would be nice to NOT need any dongles. But if one must be used why not build both gps and wifi ( Bluetooth audio streaming anybody) and Bluetooth into a common plugin dongle GPS chips. GPS chip packages have come down in size to 2.8x2.9 mm!, about the size of a wooden match stick head.
GPS tech really should be built in at this stage IMHO.

All that said Uniden does solid design work. My other guess is they want to preserve that feature for future radios.....I would.
