I have been trying to get this trunking to work for UCAN, mostly for Davis and Weber counties. When I input the control channel for davis all I hear is a static noise, it almost sounds like a digital channel. can someone please walk me through how to program it right? I have read the manual like 50 times and still have no idea what to do. also in the RR data base where it says DEC, is that the TGID? I read in a earlier forum that we have been rebanded so I went to the uniden website and downloaded the firmware updater. Am i doing this right? also, do you need a band plan for the UCAN system? if so where do you find that info?

Welcome to the Utah Forum of RR.com

Although you're claiming Wyoming as your location you talk about, "We have been rebanded..." which tells me you spend a lot of time in Utah, so we will claim you as one of our own. :D

Congratulations. If you have gone to Uniden's Web site and obtained the upgrade, you are one step ahead of a lot of people just starting out. I'm going to tell you right out of the gate that I am not familiar with your scanner but I have downloaded a copy of the manual. Even having a copy of the manual does not guarantee that I can get you going.

Apparently you know how to enter the Control Channel (CC) frequency. On page 87 it talks about setting up a "Startup Key" which might be where you are having problems because it sounds as though you are scanning the CC as a conventional frequency. Make sure you also have selected Motorola 800 MHz Type II Standard as the system type. That will tell the scanner that this is a trunked system. Read over that part of your manual very carefully.

Yes, the Dec number you see in the Database (Db) is the TGID that you have asked about. That is the number you will want to enter into the scanner to listen to specific TGs.

I have looked the BCT15 in the RR Wiki and it indicates that there is software available to assist you in programming your scanner and for computer control. You might check that out to see if that would interest you. Most of us have found that third-party software helps tremendously in programing our scanners.

You asked if you need a band plan and I cannot answer that question because I don't know what was included in the upgrade you got from Uniden. If it works out that you do need a band plan you will find two band plans here which can be found in the Sticky Thread at the top of this page. Some scanners are limited as to how many lines can be entered, so with this in mind the most critical part of these plans are the first three lines in the top band plan and the first two lines in the lower band plan. Both of those plans are being used here in Utah. They both accomplish the same thing.

Hopefully someone with hands-on experience with the BCT15 will come along to give you more personal help. In the meantime, don't give up and get intimately familiar with your manual. All of us started where you are...completely confused!

You can also post your specific question(s) about the scanner in the Uniden Scanners Forum here on the RR.com Web site. Those people all run Unidens and might have better information for you.

My only suggestion for programming the BCT15 would be to purchase the Butel software for it. It can be found here and is well worth the money in my opinion.

Also, I found this version of the manual handy when I was learning my BCT15.

As for manually programming trunked systems into the BCT15, I've never done it.
