It's almost impossible to properly debug this unless we see the programming. The most obvious answer is that although some system quick keys were likely assigned and activated, I'd wager that group quick keys were either allocated but not enabled or not allocated at all. This is a very common mistake.

I would suggest either getting the UASD from Uniden, or using one of the two freeware programs (BCTool or FreeScan; and you will need a USB cable to connect to your PC) and dumping the programming. Zip (compress) it up and attach it. That way others can download it and examine it for errors.

Links for both freeware programs can be found many places in our wiki - for example...

Another thing that can be a problem is that they defined the fleetnet system as pure P25. If memory serves, it's not. It does have some analog talkgroups (which is all the BCT15 can hear, as it's not a digital trunktracker) 73 Mike

Mikey that doesn't tell us how the system is defined, as well as whether the group quick keys are enabled (notice that is different from just being defined - it's really a 2 step process - define which group quick key to use, then enable it). Again, read what I mentioned about dumping the programming and letting people see what is set up. And what is 'edit channel 22 channels their' ??

Let's start by identifying what system you are trying to hear - the link below will take you to the database entry for York, Ontario....

What happens when you press hold while scanning? What happens if you do a search instead of a scan?

THE system I AM trying to hear IS York Region Motorola Type II SmartneT Police and Fire.
Scanner Frequencies: York Region Trunking System, York, Ontario

when i press hold while scanning i get a channel that has alot of noise

That is a good sign. It sounds like you have set the system up correctly. You should also have a SID displayed and some ID#s showing under that will go away sometimes and are changing. That all means that your system is set up and you have not set up talk group ids correctly.

You should be able to search successfully then. In search mode you will see talkgroup IDs that are active on the display.

Now you need to put at least one group under the system and put your talkgroup IDs in that group. Then you should be able to scan that group. On a trunk you don't scan frequencies, you scan talkgroup IDs.

Are the talkgroup IDs in that group correct? So far I think you've proven that they are not.

A talkgroup ID has an ID part that is a number like 12345 and an associated alpha tag that is displayed instead of the ID# so that you know what the # represents.

I looked at our database and there is a listing of PD talkgroups for your system at the bottom of the page. The actual talkgroup IDs are the numbers in the first column. They range from 16 to 752. That is what the scanner is looking for on the trunk. The alpha tag is what the scanner displays.

all the id # match up from 16 to 752 .

Well the database might be out of date then. Try running in search mode and see which IDs are active and if they match up to the ones in your scanner. If they match you will see the alpha tag on your display and if you see a number it means you are hearing a talkgroup ID that is not in your scanner.
