About 2 months or so back the back light on my BCT-15 had quit working. I was disappointed but instead of sending it in decided just to deal with the issue. So Saturday afternoon, I decided to listen to my scanner still no backlight. To make a long story short I forgot I had it on and when I got home from work on early Sunday morining about 4 am. I heard my scanner and realized I had forgot to turn it off. I went in to turn it off and behold the backlight was on. I was in total shock. The backlight as of this minute continues to work and have had the unit off and on several times since.
