I was playing around with my 396t and now i notice it misses the first second of a transmission when put beside another scanner.for example i have the 396t beside my base scanner on the same channel and when they say "10-4".on my base i can hear the full "10-4".on my 396t all i hear is the "4" of the transmission.i remember this happening before but i cannot remember what setting i used to fix it.any info would be great.thanks.

Is this system a MOT w/P25 voice? Try P25 waiting time.

That's exactly what is happening to me. I am monitoring a true P25 system so no such thing as adjusting P25 wait time. Its very annoying as sometimes I miss the beginning of unit numbers, addresses, etc. I noticed that the response time is immediate during the 2 second delay period when someone replys. But, it it slow to produce audio when the talk group goes active while scanning, or just sitting on hold. So far, I havent seen a fix for this..

Also-Just to add- I have a 396XT

If the channel has CTCSS/DCS, program it in.
If it doesn't, set the channel to CTCSS/DCS Search.
Either of these will disable the P25 Waiting Time for the channel.

You say if the talkgroup is sitting on hold it skips the beginning of the comm? I don't have that problem at all using the XT on a P25 system here.

Exactly. I'm holding on a single talk group (Pure P25 system). When a conversation starts, my PSR-500 has audio before the 396XT. I constantly miss the begnning transmission on the XT.

Example- I can hear the PSR-500 audio- "911 dispatch to 762" On the XT I only hear"to 62" Now if the calling party answers within the 2 second scan delay, the audio is INSTANT on both the 500 and the XT with no delay, and the audio is decoded without any misses in audio. After the 2 second delay, if somebody starts to talk, I miss the very beginning of the transmission on the XT.

I tried the same exact thing using an analog channel, and there is no delay whatsoever. Both the 500 and the XT have audio when holding on a conventional analog channel.

I'm not sure if something is wrong with my XT, or if this is just the way it is. Should I call Uniden for warranty, or just return the the radio?

Does the XT have a battery save feature? Turn it off....

I never thought of that as well - I turned it off & set the XT to the Bucks County, PA TRS.

Flawless decoding on all of the P25 talkgroups - no delay whatsoever! :D

Now the big test will be next week - the Burlington County TRS here in NJ was my #1 offender for the issues mentioned in this post...
