BCT-8 alert feature

Good day folks. I just received my new BC-T8 scanner and have been testing it all day long. The problem is something the user guide tells ME what to do, doesn't work. I cannot disable the loud beeping alert when I turn the scanner on. Both the push-button methods to lower or MUTE the alert do not work. Any advice?

You can't totally mute the alert tone at start up, nor can you totally eliminate the ALERT light at start up. To set the alert tone to the lowest level at start up, first put the scanner into State HWY Patrol mode then adjust the volume level by preesing the On/off/Volume/Alert button until the tone is at it's softest. When you turn the scanner on, you will still get a tone, but it won't be too loud.

Oh, if you have any trunked systems programmed in, you can toggle between LIST and BANK by pressing the DATA button when the scanner is in trunking mode. That's not in the manual.
