BCT 8 and HWY Patrol

Just wondering how many times the HWY Patrol alert came in handy?

I do own one already and it has came in handy on my only road trip with it down to S. Tx. I received the alert right outside of Waco.

Throughout Tx, how many really do use their repeater?

I found it rather annoying. Although I've never used it as a detector. It doesn't really serve much good while traveling through a city, where 3 miles could be anywhere.

I rely on my radar detector for finding the popo's

How do you find it annoying? Im from a bigger city and dont use it when cruisin around town. In fact, I dont think there is any DPS troopers around here.

I rely on my detector, laser jammer, and my eyes to keep ticket free. I just have this as another countermeasure along with a CB.

i've never heard of the hwy patrol alert. is this a scanner signal or just part of your radar detector?

The scanner is pre-programmed with TX DPS freq's and will alert you visually and beeps if they are using a mobile extender (repeater) within 3 miles of you.

Well, I went to NM last month, and I got an alert on my 8, and looked up and just coming over the hill was a NMSP unit. I wasn't speeding, so no ticket or traffic stop, but it did exactly what Uniden advertised.

It also alerts me whenever there is a local OHP unit in the area.

in my parish (county), pd and s.o. dont use the mobile extenders. but state police does. i find very little use here in la but out of state i get lots of alerts

Yea, we don't have extenders either here in Oklahoma, the bc8 alerts on the OHP mobile channel (44.90). Works real well out west where we are still on Low band.

How does what operate? the BC8? It probably alerts on any signal it receives on
whatever frequencies Uniden put in it. I have never used one.
The DPS only has mobile and hand held radios. They do not have extenders or vehicluar repeaters.

I know how the BCT8 works and how repeaters work. Im asking if the DPS does not use repeaters: 1) how do they operate or communicate over a long distance (boonies) and 2) why did my BCT8 alert me of an extender in use just north of waco. I know this was the DPS officer who set it off because when it went off I was listening to his transmission and he gave dispatch his location which was 1 mile south of me, sure enough he was at that mile marker?

The DPS has repeaters in some areas and non-repeated base stations in
other areas.
usually in most places 155.46/154.68 and 155.445/154.695 are not repeated
and 159.21/154.665 are repeaters. Most DPS offices have several bases or repeaters to cover their area. Look at all the locations Waco can transmit from,
Waco, Ross, Glen Rose, Fairfield, Waxahachie

I assume the BC8 will pick up any of those frequencies. If it says it is picking
up an extender in Texas, that means Uniden didn't do their homework.
