I inadvertently must have touched Programming Button on the15X, and now after doing any Updates with FreeScan, it immediately begins scanning the FM Broadcast Band..

I found the below instructions on how to "Permanently" Lock Out the Band, but it keeps returning.

press Menu button on the side. Scroll to Search for press E/yes.
Scroll to Edit Service and press E/yes.
Scroll to: FM Broadcast press E/yes.
Scroll to: Search with Scan press E/yes.
Scroll to: Set Lockout Press E/yes.
Scroll to: Lockout Press E/yes.
Press Lockout Twice ( Quickly!) for Permanent Lockout
Press SCAN

The above works..... until I upload

Hoping I'm missing a simple step....

Thx....

the press lockout is

Do you mean that the FM Broadcast Band returns when you turn the scanner off, then back on sometime later?

Or, if, what you mean, is that it returns when you reload your programming from software, then you have that service search enabled in your software programming file. Which software are you using?

Thanks to both of you for responding so quickly.....

I'm referring to the Radio itself... not FreeScan... sorry if I was not clear.

It's the FM "Broadcast" Band that starts immediately after.

I even tried the "ERASE ALL SYSTEMS & Settings" in FreeScan, but to no avail.

Once I Upload my Freq List from Freescan to the 15x, it immediately opens the FM Broadcast Band at 89.50 and if I press SCAN, it will Scan from 89.5 and up.

I've tried the Twice Quickly with no success using the above instructions i mentioned.

When you refer to the "FM Thing"... can you be more specific if its based on the above instructions..... or am I missing a step?

ok,
i have had my radios doing a couple of things at once and what i do with 7 systems AND 2 custom searches AND 1 service search is.
hit the function button, and then hit lockout twice.
i would have to do that 10 times and eventually the radio scrolls "nothing to scan" and then i would put the sheriff back on.

the other way is. (as i pull out my 396T)
hit the menu button, scroll to "search for", hit the yes button
scroll to edit service, hit yes
scroll to FM Broadcast, hit yes.
scroll to search with scan , hit yes
set lockout, hit yes
scroll to lockout, hit yes. (STOP)
hit scan.

the scanner is only doing what the software is telling it to do, so turn every thing in the software then reupload the file.

you need to fix the mistakes in the software first.

wtp's instructions for turning ot off via the menu is one solution.

But the persistence of the problem is in your FreeSCAN programming file. You're restarting it unintentionally when you load a FreeSCAN programming file.

Open FreeSCAN & select the drop-down Scanner menu.
From that drop-down menu, select "Set Up Scanner Options.

That gets you to this. Choose the Service Search tab.

On the Service Search screen, you can select a drop-down of one of the service search range of frequencies.

If you select one of these, then you can lock the service search out.

I suspect that, if you access the Setup Scanner screen on FreeSCAN, you'll see FM (in that window where "News" is currently shown).

Make sure that the Lockout box is checked. (Underlined in the above image.

Exactly. Unless you turn that off in the Setup Scanner Options section, FM Broadcast will come back to life every time you upload a program file via FreeSCAN. Be sure, that once you make that change, that you save the file so that is no longer coming up.

wtp...

Thanks for going the extra mile by confirming the steps required that have worked for you....

Your sequence is slightly different at the final step... and that was different enough to make the difference.

I've cycled everything several times with multiple uploads... and the FL Band is no more! Yea!

We've got the Blue Angels in town and I like to record the show...

Again your efforts are appreciated.

Thanks too hiegtx.... I had assumed the issue was on the Radio side... not Free Scan. I did drill down to the screens you suggested, and everything was locked out.

Since I solved the issue via the 15x interface, I'm not sure if "news" was unticked as locked out before I solved it.

Nonetheless your contribution is appreciated.

I don't play with the Radio as much as I once did, so lighting it up during the yearly Air Show is always an adventure to get everything talking with the PC.....

it is nice and quick to set up and program the radio by computer,
but when at the air show it is better to know how to program by hand...
