I will third the Easier to Read manual...I know its pointless to add on to this thread but using that manual eliminated ALL of my questions about the scanner. I plan to print the sucker out when I get enough ink :)

Push these buttons...

Hello,
New scanner, How do I change the state from alabama to indiana ????

With the scanner on-push the function button, then push the volume button. Now turn the function button to scroll to your desired state. When you find it/highlight it-push the function button to select it.

Now I don't know if the data programmed for your state in the scanner is up to date, so if you want to shut that "State" scanning feature off-keep pushing the POL button until the PL (Police), and DT (Dept. of Transportation) are no longer visible at the bottom of the display. Do the same to the HP button (Highway Patrol), and BT (BearTracker) to remove them from the bottom of the display. Then whatever state you have selected will no longer get scanned.

Enjoy and have fun :)

Would be nice of Uniden to once a year provide an updated firmware for the BCT15X that updates the POL, Dept Transportation, Highway Patrol, and BearTracker functions nationwide. Of course its best to be in control of your own frequencies by programming them yourself, but if they're going to provide these preprogrammed databases, they should consider updating them once a year (at least).

I agree....somewhat!

I make a note of frequencies that are hit on the POL, DT, HP and for my state-Vermont, county-Washington, all the frequencies are spot on.
But then again.....were pretty small compared to most of the other states and things probably don't change much around here. I say "probably" because I've never been involved with scanners until this year so I have no idea what frequencies were being used earlier. My guess is that what we have here in Central Vermont has been this way for awhile now.

I just wanted to note, that Mr. Blackink here (Steve) appeared on the scene not too long ago as a new user. Even then, he was a quick learner. Now he is helping others out. That's awesome. This demonstrates that, given time, we can all learn and pass on what we have learned.

That's what makes RR so great. So Steve, keep it going. Stay involved. And please feel free to send me that $50 you borrowed last month to buy your scanner. Legal tender only, please and thank you.

As a matter of fact.....I've just programmed my banks account# into my scanner for a withdrawal for just that amount made out to you and I have sent it via "scanner airwaves".
Now all you have to do is "Search" for it. If your scanner can pick it up, you'll be all set.
And Your Welcome....it was nice to do business with you....

Ohio is out I believe as far as the Beartracker Function unless they would add that to the BCD996XT or set up the 15X with digital capability. The MARCS system used by the OSHP can be analog or digital usage, but OSHP went with using P25. So did the Clark County Sheriff thanks to the NFM requirement when they left VHF High Band for MARCS. So FYI, it may or may not function here. I have gotten a few alerts here and there on 821.??? but no audio of any sort. So I have yet to see. Have yet to try it out on Indiana's SAFE-T system. Will have to take a short trip West soon and see. Be well :). - Kaci
