I was wondering which of these 2 scanners is the best? Or if any of you expert scanner nuts have an opinion of a better scanner? A little history: I live in a small town 32 miles south of Gary, IN, so far all the frequencies except Hammond are "standard"? eg: 151.3250 etc.. I am always looking for new/hidden frequncies, I'am not an expert, although I have been scanning for about 20 years, I have a RS pro2044, although a basic scanner, it seems to work really well for my area, though I feel as if I'm missing something not having a scanner that can cover more. Thanks for your help. Jim, scanner nut in training!

Hello,

I have both and the BC898T is a better scanner. The BC898T has Rapid PL/DCS decode, frequency step size and modulation can be changed, more flexible search ranges, and does not make noise when it powers up.

If you want a small base/mobile that works well the BCT-8 is nice, but the BC898T has more frequency coverage and the rapid CTCSS/DCS decode.
They both have available software from Uniden (http://uniden.com/product.cfm?product=BCT8) and Butel (http://butel.nl/). On th Uniden site you can find the owners manuals to download when you click support on each radio web page.

The BCT-8 has 250 User Programmable Memories, 25-54,108-174,400-512,806-956 (excluding cellular), BearTracker™ Warning System, Trunktracker III - Motorola, EDACS, LTR (no digital APCO-25).

The BC898T has 500 User Programmable Memories, 25-54,108-174, 216-512, 806-956 (excluding cellular) including the Mil-Air band, and DCS/CTCSS Rapid Decode, Trunktracker III - Motorola, EDACS, LTR (no digital APCO-25).

At my computer, duh!
796 is 9600 baud capable and cheaper than sticking a 3600 baud card in the 785. If you know you want digital in a mobile, it's the ticket right now. It's a lot more money though.
