BCT8: BCT8 Stopped Scanning

Hi all hoping someone can help me out. I have had a total of two different BCT8 scanners stop working on me at different times for unknown reasons. On both cases I did not experience any prior issues, but when I went to turn on the scanner it would not scan and the speaker stopped working. I could not control the volume, and could only hear a very low humming noise. The scanner will power up, but does not scan and when I manually set it to a known a high traffic channel it does not receive at all. Ive tried resetting both ( 2 + 9 + state) and have had no success. Ive tried local wx channels which hve very strong signal, and neither will pick up any signal.
Has anyone else experienced this? I don't know why it has happened to both my BCT8 scanners at different times..

How were you powering the BCT8 scanners? Did you use the same power supply on both radios?

I used the supplied AC power supplies for each scanner. I thought it may be an electric issue but I don't have any other issues with other scanners in the shack.

A web search shows a few other BCT8 owners describe a similar problem, but without a posted solution.

Perhaps a ribbon cable or other connector inside the radio has developed bad contacts. They can oxidize over time.

The BCT8, BCT15X seem to have a problem over time where a mixer may short and cause the scanner not to boot. If the scanner boots, the scanner only works below like 29 MHz.

Try and see if the scanner can receive anything in the CB band.

But in any case the scanner will need to be sent in for repair or sold on ebay for parts if it is not worth the Uniden repair charge, which is around $90 with 2 way shipping these days.

The only thing either scanner will scan seems to Be the CB band so it must be the issue you described. Thank you for the help

I have a 996xt that has the same problem that needs to be repairea. If I have time, I
might investigate the cause as this seems to be a common problem.

BCT8 wont scan

having a verry similer problem, the scanner stopped scanning, although i could control the volume, i could not receive anything , but had the hum in the backround.
