BCT8 - turn off initial alert tone?

I just got a BCT8. Is there any way to turn off the initial alert tone every time the scanner is turned on?

I never found a way to do that. However, you can choose from 3 sound levels for the alerts (see the manual for instructions). And, when you set it to the lowest level, it significantly reduces the volume for the initial turn-on tone as well.
