The Aviation Museum of Kentucky has a distinguished visitor beginning 06 Oct.... and, as AMK is one of my passions; I shall be spending numerous waking hours until 09 Oct at AMK with the EAA's Aluminum Overcast while she visits KLEX for a few days. As is evident from the attached picture, she is a fully restoring, flying B-17G-not many are still flying... I will try to grab updates in the evening, but should be able to catch up by next weekend.....

Please share any pictures you can take of this beauty!
As you stated very correctly you don't see one of these above you in the
sky everyday! :D:)
Enjoy Brother you deserve the trip!
Happy Monitoring!

I'll post some pix after the visit.... these are always cool times at AMK... so many people come by to see their history and some come to revisit their own history... and I get to be part of it in my own small way....

Fire off some photos to us.

Here she is.....
"Aluminum Overcast" She's over the numbers for Runway 22 at KLEX in the top foto... taxiing out for a flight in the middle foto and in the bottom she is overwatched by "Hurry Home Honey" (a restored P-51D) based at Air 51 at KLEX... I'll find a foto sharing website and post more later....

Great photos Steve. I'd love to take either a/c up for a spin. I would have been like a kid in a candy shop being around these. Thanks for the pix.

Being that kid in the warbird candy shop has been my volunteer job at AMK for the past few days.... the "Aluminum Overcast" is an awesome aircraft and her newly found buddy "Hurry Home Honey", a sweet restoration in her own right, is part of a local warbird hangar.... She leaves about 1000 on 09 Oct for Asheville (KAVL)....

Sorry... a polite PM from a fellow round-engine airplane aficionado reminded me about my overdue promise.... I never did find a foto sharing site I really like so here is the link to "Aluminum Overcast" and other pix from KLEX on flightaware.com (no, I'm not in a contest or anything, I just like airplanes and sharing fotos of them).

My favorite plane is the North American P-51D mustang, I have a R/C P-51D Marked-up like Hurry Home Honey(357th FG). Seen Hurry Home Honey in action several times. My favorite bomber is the B-17 also. I LOVE aircraft, my desk is covered with P-51's!!!!

I may be out of the loop for the next few days... we are having company this weekend if the rain in Florida will subside long enough for Waldo Wright's Flying Service to make the open-cockpit bi-plane trip to KLEX.... I am, of course, obsessed with scanning; but airplanes, especially those with round engines are a very close second.... and then there's the Aviation Museum....

Rob Lock made the ten hour trip from Florida to KLEX skirting the line of storms that postponed the Shuttle landing... He'll be visiting the Aviation Museum of Kentucky until Monday 25 May giving rides and taking pix in his 1931 New Standard D-25...
