If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi Guys, my son has a Bearcat 880 and hadnt used it in a while. Today we tested to make sure it worked via the cb in my truck. When I transmit, he can hear me clearly. When he transmits, I can see where he is transmitting because my bars max out when he presses his mic button. I just can hear any vocalization. I can see where he is keying his mic but i cant hear his voice. It is one of those noise cancelling mics that come with the 880. Its like its cancelling not just background noise but his voice as well. Any ideas would be appreciated.

No audio from a microphone is almost always caused by a broken wire in the cable. If you can remove the cover on the plug of the microphone cable, check for a broken wire where it is soldered to the connector. I have seen where the contacts inside the microphone are dirty or bent. The failure of an element is rare. The majority of the problems is where the wires solder to the plug, where there is the most stress on the cable.

Thanks for the info. I checked for continuity of all the wires from each pin connector to the mic switch inside of the hand unit. No breaks. I also checked the yellow wire in from the plug and depressed the transmit button on the mic and theres continuity through the switch. When i depress the transmit switch, the tx meter on the cb goes to max so i know the mic is working with regard to sending signal to transmit. Its just not transmitting any voice. When i listen on my cb i can tell his cb is transmitting because my normal static noise goes silent when he presses his mic but no voice.

If your radio has a transmit/receive relay, try cleaning the relay. If it is a dynamic mike, you can substitute a small speaker for the microphone element. A speaker will work as a microphone if you speak into it. Although it is rare, I had a microphone element fail in a hand mike in the middle of a satellite live shot.

If you both have Uniden radios, try switching the mics. If the reverse happens then you have a bad mic. If the same happens, then you have a problem inside the radio.
