Will the Bearcat Digital Software program that came with the Uniden 796D, Version 1.0 work with Windows Vista? Also, was there any additional software updates to this program?

Once your 796D is registered it will tell you if their are any updates to the software or the radio

For sure you should be getting an update to the radio in the next couple months (Jan 31/09) to cover rebanding

Hopefully UPMan (Unidens product manager can answer) as to Vista compatibility

As I recall, there was quite a discussion about the program(s) that Uniden supplied for these pre-DMA scanners way back when. Some could get them to work, some couldn't and ended up using the CD for a cup holder :.>>
I wouldn't hold my breath for Vista compatibility, especially now since there are much better alternatives. ProScan supports this scanner (and is Vista compatible), and it would be worth knowing if ARC250 has been updated to handle Vista (there's nothing on the BuTel website about it, and ProScan is giving it a run for the money, for sure). Both are RR web service compatible. While Scan Control doesn't have the web interface, it too is supposed to be Vista compatible (very klunky program but it does work...). Off hand I am not sure about Vista Compatibility on the Uniden software, but if it is not I can highly reccomend ProScan. ProScan is Vista compliant and works with the 796 as well as the 250, 296, 780, 785, 330, 396, 996 and the BC15. Check out the30day free trial as well at www.proscan.org

It will also allow you to stream and control your scanner over the net if desired. (I love having access to my 996 at home while I am at work)
