Hi Folks, Can someone with a really good memory tell me what kind of external ant connector the Bearcat IV has on its back? This info is aggravatingly hard to find on the web. I had this scanner once in the late 70s, and am thinking about buying one again (reason: sound quality). But I cannot remember what type of antenna connector it had for external.

Thanks.

Motorola type like your typical car radio. If you can find a Bearcat 12 it has even better sound quality plus a delay and scan speed selector. I know because I still have both and will never part with either one.

Mine has a "Motorola" type connector. (It's still in the closet)..There are two of those kinds of plugs. I used an adapter to convert from a PL259 to the Moto plug. The Bearcat IV needs the long center piece, NOT the short one. The short one doesn't go in far enough to make a connection....

Hey thanks guys. I had a feeling it was not BNC. At least now I know what type of connector to look for. And thanks for the info on the Bearcat 12. I'm really big on audio quality when it comes to my scanners & shortwave receivers. I remember the Bearcat IV as sounding far more real than the models I've owned since the 1980s. Much of what I like is still found in VHF & UHF standard too.

The Bearcat IV speaker was much larger that what they put in scanners now. Plus, it was "in the box" of the scanner which helped with the "bass tone" of the audio making it sound much fuller/louder.
