Hello all, I just bought a Bearcat IV and I’m new to having a scanner that takes crystals. I have done my research and read other posts on here, but needed some clarification and guidance. When I’m searching for a crystal for the frequency I want to receive, do I search for that frequency? I.e. 46.16 or do I search for the 56.96 crystal because of the equation you have to do? Also, does anyone know any reputable dealers to still purchase crystals from? Thanks in advance!

That depends on who is selling the crystal. Some people will advertise the received frequency (46.16) and others the crystal frequency (56.96). Ask them if your not sure. Some crystals will have both stamped on them and other crystals will only have the crystal frequency stamped on it and you will have to do the math. I don't know of any dealers anymore that sell them. You can find them on Ebay usually around $5.00/crystal.

Not every crystal will work--example the Bearcat III & IV and other models have (-10.8MHz IF) / Regency & Radio Shack Realistic (10.7MHz IF RG-type)

I buy my crystals from a gentleman on ebay a little pricey but they work every time. I believe he builds, manufacture or what ever the right word for make crystals him self. You have to tell him what kind of scanner you have. I bought a bunch of crystals for my bearcat scanners with no problems. cbrdsales 2015.

My suggestion is to buy from someone who can sell you the right crystal, when all you tell them is the freq you want to hear, and the make and model of the radio. To me, that's a watershed of quality.
