The Bearcat III required some type of boards to do different bands, while the Bearcat IV only needed you to set the band of each crystal with a switch.

BC IV ?? Isn't that a 30 year old radio?

Anyway - If I remember correctly, the BC III only did up to VHF freqs (148-174 Mhz) and the BC IV added UHF (406-512 Mhz)... then again, that was 30 years ago..

I have a BC IV but it's on my antique shelf...

BC IV ??

BC III had the choice of up to two out of three of the band modules (Lo, Hi or UHF, UHF-T). This is according to the user manual. So there are a variety of BC III's out there. You will find BC III's with just one module or a combination of the two.My BC III has one VHF Lo and one VHF Hi modules installed.

Yeah, that's exactally why the Bearcat IV is much better. I need to get some crystals for mine.

Thanks for all your replys. I just bought a mint Bearcat IV like the one I had 30 years ago. I wanted it just for local PD. FD. Can any one tell me where I can buy Crystals?

Bob

PS If any body has one they want to sell let me know.

You may want to join the vintagescanner yahoo group. Lots of helpful people there regarding the oldies. Message volume is very low, always on-topic, and no spam.
