Could someone please let me know if the Beaufort County (Palmetto P25) 800 trunked system can be set to "P25 Auto" when trunking on the PRO-197, or does it have to be setup as "MOT 800/900." And has it been rebanded yet.

Not from the area, and would like to know ahead of time. Thanks.

Yes, to "P25 Auto" setting on the PRO-197.

Rebanding isn't an issue with P25 systems, and the Beaufort site of PP25 does not include any frequencies in the 866-869 range that would be affected by rebanding.

Yes, LE is encrypted but other emergency services and local goverment comms are in the clear, as far as we know.

You might also want to program the Palmetto 800 system, which will carry communications from SCHP and other state agencies as well as neighboring counties - Jasper County, namely. You'll want to program the Bluffton (37), Yemmassee (33), Port Royal (29) or Jasper Co (51) sites depending on where in Beaufort County you will be. This system you would set up as MOT 800/900 and, according to reports, the Bluffton site has not yet been rebanded.

There is no Palmetto 800 site on Hilton Head itself. The closest site is Bluffton Site 37. Reports are that this site has not rebanded.

There is a simulcast site for Palmetto P25 on Hilton Head. Use the same frequencies listed for the Beaufort Co site.

There used to be several SMRs (private trunked systems), and by now most likely a bit of DMR (MotoTRBO, NXDN) in use on Hilton Head. We don't get much in the way of submissions from that area, so I would certainly do some searching if you have a chance and see what else you can hear besides FD/EMS/Local Govt.
