Check all the threads with Joe Bearcat including the one that had over a thousand post and then crashed and burned. Don't know how long you've been around radio reference... 2008? (but the true identity of Joe Bearcat is revealed in that thread). It got pretty ugly, real fast after that... it was shut down. We are still waiting for an update for the SDS series, last one was April 15th 2019.

Pretty much crickets since then but that doesn't mean Paul's replacement has not been posting, I just don't pay attention, so don't take my word for it.

It does seem that the repair service has improved, that has nothing to do with the Uniden product manager. He disavows any connection with that, so then he is not responsible for improved repair service. As far as confirmation of any problems being solved, that has been very vague, cryptic and unconfirmed.

This is not meant to be negative, I'm just interpreting what seems to be happening or not happening as I see it.

It's just my...

With Paul, there was a sense of reassurance that products would continue to be supported on a regular basis. Even during his illness, he was here helping members and supporting Unidens scanners with hardware, software, and firmware updates.

Maybe Joe Bearcat can chime in here and offer some sort of timeline of future updates. Any firmware or software for the SDS scanners? Will there be a beta version ? Will we see a new scanner by the end of the year?

Maybe it was in the thread that crashed and burned, but Joe Bearcat has been upfront and honest about the things he is permitted to say.

1. This COVID thing has screwed up lots of stuff, here and abroad. People have been laid off, plants have been shut down, productivity has gone down and a chip plant in Japan was pretty much the only supply of certain types of chips.

2. Uniden is not going out of business, yes, there will be new models and firmware updates. When? Uniden (and Paul. UPMan) have always kept that information quiet until right before product release.

3. Something is coming in about 3 months, and that's all he said... Maybe software or firmware and maybe even a new product... But very unlikely it will be new scanner models.

4. Firmware programming *appears* to be contracted out (not Uniden employees) and thus has to be budgeted and approved higher up the corporate food chain.

5. Patience

All of the above is MY interpretation of what I have read in Joe's posts. Your mileage may vary.

Don't get me wrong, I know it's not JoeBearcat's fault. It's the lack of Uniden's response to his efforts. Uniden should feel fortunate they have someone willing to take the punches!

The engineers that worked on the SDS series are in Japan. It's very possible the firmware programmers are there as well. I know Paul made trips to Japan to consult with them. I have a feeling Paul was the only Uniden employee here in the U.S. that was technically involved with Uniden's scanners. If so, that was a big mistake on Uniden's behalf as they are all well aware of today.

In today's employee climate, can you imagine the difficulty Uniden must be having attempting to find someone, anyone to pick up where Paul left off? Not just from a technical standpoint, but someone with his devotion and enthusiasm!
