I was in a boat accident and have been out of the loop for a while. I see that the lafayette system has had some changes. What do I need to do to get hear the system now. I dont hear a peap on it now at all the way my scanner is pgmed. It is still programed the way the system used to be before november.

First, program you scanner for Motorola Type II trunking. In other words remove the old fleet map by selecting size code 0 for all blocks if it is a Uniden scanner or size code 15 if it is a GRE made scanner or just select Motorola type II 800.

Then, go to the database on this website and change the talkgroups ID's to the new talkgroup ID numbers shown in the database. That's it.

The old 000-1, 000-2, etc. ID's have all changed to 5 digit ID's in the 50,000's.

Got it thanks alot . I was scared the lafayete system went digital.

Another thing, is there any scanner out there that would have more crisp audio. I have a pro 95 and it works pretty good even with my outdoor antenna but when I turn up the vol all the way with or without headphones it seems like I can never hear the person loud enough. There is always white noise in the signal with or without my outdoor antenna. Would a 800 meg antenna instead of a scanner antenna work better? I mostly listen to 800 meg trunk systems.
Or is there a more expensive cleaner sounding scanner on the market?

Will the new digital scanners still receive the type 2 mot systems as well as conv freqs?

Yes, the new digital scanners will receive analog systems as well. I bought a Uniden BC-296D a few months ago and I am yet to listen to a digital system on it. The pro-96 digital scanner will do both digital and analog Motorola and EDACS but it wont track LTR, neither will its upcoming base/mobile version the pro-2096. The BC-296D's base/mobile version the 796D will do both digital and analog as well as Motorola, EDACS, and LTR systems.

Why havent you listened to a digital system on your new scanner? Does it not work with them well? That is the model that I am looking at but want to make sure I can listen to the digital in st martin parish that is near me.

There are no digital systems near me that I can receive with the scanner. No scanner will monitor the St. Martin Parish system because it is provoice digital. Provoice is a proprietary format and would require permission from MA/COM, the holder of the copyrights and patents. The digital format that the scanner can receive, Motorola ASTRO, is based on APCO Project 25 which is an open standard.
