Am interested in getting started in scanning and live in Cobb County. I‘m mostly interested in listening to all law enforcement (dispatch, car to car) but am unsure if PD’s in my area are encrypted or not. Also, can you recommend a really good handheld for this purpose. Used to enjoy listening back on the 70’s, but so much has changed since then so I have a lot of learning to do. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide.

The RR database is a great place to start your research, Cobb is here Cobb Regional Radio System Trunking System, Various, Georgia - Scanner Frequencies It's a phase 2 system so I would probably buy the Uniden SDS100 and call it a day, most places our out of stock but if you look around you should be able to snag one.

Doesn't appear Cobb talk groups for police are encrypted at this time based on the database. I hope this helped...Happy Scanning!

Thanks for your help. From what I'm reading it seems like the SDS100 is a good way to go. I found in stock at Bearcat Warehouse so I will order.
