I need some help using scanners in Florida. I am not really sure how things are set up in the state of Florida, but I use to listen to fire scanners in New York City, where things were pretty simple. For example, if I wanted to listen to fires happening in all of Broward County, what would I need to do? Is there one frequency that encompasses all of Broward or are there different frequencies for each city within Broward? Anyone who can help me answer some questions and would like to chat please email me immediately!!!
Thanks
To listen to fire calls in Broward County, you will need a scanner capable of Trunk Tracking Motorola systems, as all fire calls in Broward County (with the exception of Pembroke Pines) are on one of several different trunked systems.
Broward County has their own trunked system, which dispatches fire and rescue calls for unincorporated areas of Broward County, and a few cities within Broward County. Then there are several other cities that have their own trunked systems, and most share them with at least one other city. All are analog except Hollywood, which uses digital for police and fire/rescue.
No, there's no single analog frequency (or even group of frequencies) that you can monitor and receive fire calls county wide, it doesn't work like that here.
I would suggest you join the Yahoo Southeast Florida scanner group. The people on that group mostly live in south Florida, and will have a lot of helpful information. Go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/ and look for the SEFLORIDA scanner group and subscribe to it.
