BELDING - Forget the old VHF (Very High Frequency) radio systems, it looks like Belding - along with the rest of Ionia County - is moving in the direction of digital communications.

The Belding City Council adopted a measure to allow Belding city departments to apply for 800 megahertz digital radios at a discounted price under the Region Six Homeland Security Grant.

I think that what the Belding public safety officials were told by the salesdroids would probably be very effective fertilizer. Frankly the performance expectations in that little article would best be described a "a pack of bald-faced lies" at the very least.


That county should stay on VHF. Go digital if they want to, thus spending extra money to maintain the
same range of communications, but they should NOT be going to 800 MHz, and we know that.
