Radio I went in and set the volume offset to +1. Everything looks ok I have all the Belleville talk groups on priority so not sure. What I did notice is that I have Bordertown Simulcast site on as well as West Orange. Should I shut that one off???

I would say that considering the distance between the two sites, Bordentown is most likely not carrying the Belleville PD TG unless there is a subscriber radio affiliating to that tower. Your best bet is the West Orange and Essex County Simulcasts.

Good luck scanning!

I live in Belleville and hear them just fine. All sorts of shenanigans going on here most of the time. I have never heard any Belleville units on anything other than the West Orange Simulcast. I suppose there might have been a Union County Simulcast affiliation once in a blue moon, but I've never caught it.

Thank you I’m a life long Belleville resident. My Mother is too. I updated my sds 200 and it seemed to work. N2NHL tell me about yourself if not here in a DM. I don't recognize your call sign. Do you any of the folks in my club Nutley Amateur Radio Society?

No, I grew up in Clifton and lived in Nutley on for a short time in the late 90's. I got my ticket in 1991 and used to be in the MAMARC (Major Armstrong Memorial Amateur Radio Club). I volunteered with the Clifton OEM about 25 years ago or so. Occasionally, I spot some familiar faces but it I don't encounter that many active hams. Is the Nutley Amateur Radio Society active?

Yes we do zoom meetings now. Since we lost the Red Cross building on Chestnut St. in Nutley we met at the North Arlington K of C. We still do Field Day at Demuro Park and this year we did a special event at Rutts Hut. I’m with them since 2011.

Hehe. Rutt's Hut has consumed my life since 1979. Anyway, I was researching sites for VE sessions and the North Arlington K of C came up. Not to stray too much from the topic, but I do remember being able to hear Belleville from my old house near Lambert's Castle in Clifton. I think they were on the 800mhz band. They came in at about an S4 with a Radio Shack discone antenna on top of the roof. Now with NJICS and an SDS100, I can hear Belleville up in Montvale on West Orange Simulcast.

Speaking of Belleville action. Just outside of my apartment on Route 21 North, a 7-car accident with rollover. I can see it - and it's bad.

N2NHL what type of scanner do you have? I have a Uniden SDS 200 with a lot of systems programmed in. If I lock it down on the dispatch talk group i hear them lol. I was curious how you monitor them? I have every talk group in there that I found in the database but only see the dispatch one come up.

I have an SDS100 and SDS200. The SDS200 is doing the lion's share of the monitoring, as I have an outdoor antenna. I hear primarily PD Dispatch and FD Dispatch. Occasionally, like with the 7-car accident the other day, I will hear Channel 2 being used. This week, I also caught the Health Department on a couple of occasions - but not too much activity on a regular basis. Public Works has come alive during snow events, but nothing heard early yesterday morning during the brief snow event.

Ok cool I also have the 200 amazing scanner!!! My problem is I probably scan too many systems!!! I may have to do some reprogramming or shut some systems off.

I have a discone antenna for VHF and UHF amateur radio with the antenna lead in my basement near my shack. I’ve never hooked the scanner up to that antenna. What type of outside antenna do you have?

Depending on how busy the other systems I monitor are, I will pull out the SDS100 to just monitor Belleville and Bloomfield. I have a Home Patrol 1 that monitors just the analog systems (North Arlington, Newark, Nutley, Passaic, Garfield, etc.). I need to get one of those Stridsberg multicouplers and then I can use the outdoor antenna. I had one of those cable amplifiers that was talked about in one of the other threads (high isolation and low loss) but a power outage caused it to a continuous hum and the amplifier didn't work anymore. I think it's time to bute the bullet and get the multicoupler.

It is one of these multiband magnet mount scanner antennas from Whistler. It's stuck the outside of the wall AC sleeve outside. It does work well, but I am starting to think that I want to get a Discone and stick it on the balcony - running better grade coax in the process. One of the bad attributes about this Whistler mag mount is the cheap coax coming out of the magnet mount. Otherwise, I can pull in way more than I did before.

Wish Nutley PD was on the broadcastify app.
