Hello, I am a new member and am still hunting and pecking around this site....

For members in this area. I want to purchase a scanner to listen in on Pd, FD and the Air Base and OPP.

I am not up to date on the terminology yet and somehow believe that if I can hear these 3 that most of all my needs will be met.

What scanners will do this?

Do you find the listening in this area worth while?

Do I need a digital one?

Any pointers you may suggest would be appreciated. I was hoping that I would not need to spend $500 and that the 2 to 300 range would do it.

Besides radio shack, where do you shop for these things?

I read a thread here that the Radio Shack devices will not pick up OPP, is that true?

Thanks in advance. I can PM now! lol

ps....... looks like a great site!

!

your best bet would be to buy a digital scanner and it would be able to pick up any non encryption systems on uhf vhf am/fm bands except for mototrbo and provoice and i think another one not sure though and you can get them at durham radio, the source, radioworld, and of course radio shack.
and as for the radio shack devices will not pick up opp that is NOT true any radio shack digital scanner will pick up the opp and even if you have a analog scanner from radio shack you would be able to get there repeaters if they are in the area

also if and when you are able to buy a digital scanner, since you want to save money, buy a used one off of Kijiji, or order from the U.S brand new..... Radioshack, and Durham Radio are way too overpriced even for an analog one

Radio Shack was bought out by The Source..... some time ago.

the only change I see in the stores is that I no longer need a phone and address to buy a battery.

Hi there and welcome!

I often travel to Trenton to visit family, I have found listening is quite good in Trenton! You will need a digital scanner as both OPP and Belleville PD are P25. A quick trip to Watertown or Buffalo can net you a digital scanner for less than $400.
