Apologies if this is inappropriate. I'm not posting here because I want a list of frequencies for a certain location...rather I already have a list of frequencies accumulated over 15 years of amateur scanning. BUT, my problem is that it is fairly long with many, many frequencies not found in the database, and most of them are labeled with non-descriptive names that make it difficult or impossible to identify at a glance. Therefore, I am requiring assistance identifying them so I can properly label them and discard the bad ones. They're all for Benton County, IA. A majority of the "unlisted" frequencies came from a printout I got at a Radio Shack store, with a few coming from other sources (Random Google searches, found on other scanners, told to me by other people, etc).

Here's the list of frequencies I have gathered over the years. All of the ones in the database are here, plus all the extra ones I got from the Radio Shack printout and other sources. I've been trying to make sense of this list, so I've also attached notes and other info to them (This is just a raw C&P from the list I've put together, so it's very crudely formatted):

The ones labeled "YYYY" are the frequencies I have that are NOT in the database. The most questionable ones I need help identifying are the frequencies simply labeled "Benton County".

Also, considering how much longer my list is than the one in the database, I am thinking that most likely some/many of these are obsolete or incorrect and can be kicked out of the list. It's just a matter of properly labeling them and finding out which ones are good or bad.

If it helps with properly culling the list, the scanner I have is a PRO-2044 from Radio Shack. It's rather old, not digital or trunking, only 80 channels capacity.

Any input regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Again, apologies for my lack of knowledge in these regards. Although I've had a scanner for 15 years, I've never gotten involved in scanning beyond simply having it running and perhaps the occasional search for new frequencies to add.

Thank you.

The stuff listed in the database is correct. The only AEGIS stuff is Vinton PD(155.040) and Benton County(155.865). Everything else is in the clear.

The UHF frequencies for the county sheriff/fire are back haul/RF links/remote receivers/data, ect. . .. I would monitor the VHF side only unless you know what your exactly doing with the UHF frequencies. I typically only monitor the UHF stuff when there is a working event(ie. fire) and I want to hear the handheld radio traffic that may be on a simplex(county fire). The county roads department does UHF has their primary band for radio operations.

I also noticed some of the frequencies you listed are the input frequencies to different repeaters. For the most part, you don't need to monitor the input frequency.

I'm sure I'm leaving something out.

I know vinton is Aegis, but I was under the ASSumption that 155.865 was DES encryption. Are they both Aegis?

I'n not totally sure, just going by what I have been told/heard in the past. Either way, your not going to hear anything with a scanner.

Yeah but I wouldn't be listening with a scanner :D I never bothered with "15" because I thought it was DES. Now if it's Aegis, that's another story.

I'll have to get a little better antenna setup for the VHF rig and do some monitoring on a night that they actually use 15, and confirm.

"CH 15" is DES encrypted AEGIS.
151.205 is Benton County Emergency Management (EOC to weather spotters and SO) rather than mutual aid.
155.370 is LE Point-to-Point rather than mutual aid. (no mobiles there).
155.475 is Law Enforcement Mutual Aid rather than BC Shf. (nationwide assignment)
122.800 is also the Vinton Veterans Memorial Airport UNICOM
134.05 is Eastern Iowa Airport north approach/departure for aircraft between CID & VTI
118.90 is Waterloo Airport approach/departure for aircraft between VTI & ALO
