Has anyone heard about a paid EMS operating in Northern Valley Towns by Bergen County?
I am talking about the County running an EMS service, not an ambulance company.

Seems that calling it "REMS" when the UMDNJ program is called, "REMCS" would lead to some confusion...

But, hey, whatever!

Don't think it's gonna sit well with volunteer squads, they may feel like someone is moving in on their turf.
This has been in the works for a while. After the latest fiasco with HUMC taking over Hackensack Fire EMS division, this will probably cause a stir.

My geuss is they might be dispatched on 155.1750 the MICOMM channel. Of course they have all the police and ems frequencies to communicate to the towns..

But hopefully there will be better service to the citizens. The volunteers during the day have often been scarce. Mutual aid is routinely requested. Peoples lives may be at stake.
For a county as large and wealthy as Bergen volunteers during the day seem to be an issue.

That is what it should be about.

Good for Bergen County. A County or hospital based EMS makes the most sense for NJ.

Passaic County Sheriff's has an "EMS Division" which is all volunteer except for the guy who runs it, he gets a salary. They are having trouble getting volunteers to man the rigs they have.

It doesn't make any sense to me that these towns are having trouble getting volunteers during the day, but the Passaic Sheriff thinks he can get people to volunteer during the day?

If they want people they need to pay them. If the guy running the division can get a salary so can the EMT's.

As the economy gets worse and things get more and more expensive, more people have to work to pay the bills. To ask someone to volunteer during the day no less, is a little arrogant on their part. They want people to volunteer what little spare time they have.

I think we are going to see more and more towns have no choice but to pay for EMS during daytime hours and possibly even at night.

I was told BC has hired at least one of the laid off Hackensack emt's, and yes the trunk sytem main frame which is being installed - right now has ems talk groups planned, in fact werent the tproposed talk groups publish here a few months ago,
I am sure the new ems service if it survives could only help, the other day Closter page for a rig 3 times then ask if"anybody " had a rig when the first town did not respond , why would any body defend not responding when hopefully now somebody, County & or the Hospitals have rigs staffed and ready?

I think Channel 11 which we had known as the OEM channel is becoming more of an interop channel withing the county. I know a few of the county fire coordinators and they have county-issued radios equipped with this channel and the UTAC channels

Yeah someone did have the proposed talkgroups.... someone leaked it. But then I heard that list was null and void, and was not correct.

I wonder how accurate the list was? It would be nice to have them as soon as it goes on the air.

Not accurate at all. It was used as template to see how the talkgroups would be laid out. From what I remember the numbers listed didn't coinside with any usable talkgroups that could be programmed into digital scanners. I still haven't seen any concrete information I would want to put on my site

The TG ID's were all in Motorola Hex Format, I doubt the system will have all the TG's that file had. Only BCPD is going to be on the system from what I understand. No Sheriff or DPW stuff yet.

FYI, MICCOM is not dispatching BCEMS on JEMS1. It is my understanding that BCEMS is in fact being dispatched by BCPD on one of their frequencies.

Hello Everyone the following is from a VERY RELIABLE source...

The Bergen County REMS (Regional Emergency Medical Services) started on Monday, 11/3. They are only in service 0600 - 1800 Hrs, 7 days a week for right now. They are stationed in Rockleigh at ICC, Bergen County Intermediate Care Center. This is a county facility. They cover that county facility and are available as a mutual aid resource to the neighboring communities. I understand they have MOU's with 7 towns right now. There has been some rumored misunderstandings. I am unsure exactly what the issues are. When the service gets more demand they are going to put the second vehicle in service. It will be stationed at EMS Training Center in Paramus. The third truck, when put in service, will be in Carlstadt.
They are county employees under the vocational school, like the EMS Training Center. They bill for services. They operate on Bergen County Channel 11 (County OEM). Their ID is BLS 1, etc. I believe they have or will have 4 trucks when in full operation. I don't know when or if the additions will be made.

So there you have it for now...

Tony M...
